Loaned back to Schalke 04 for the second half of the campaign after he was frozen out at Arsenal, Sead Kolasinac was unable to stop the Bundesliga side from avoiding relegation.

The club are rock bottom of the league and have had their fate sealed for quite some time, but what isn’t certain is the Bosnia international’s future.

Currently contracted to Arsenal until 2022, Kolasinac has little to no chance of returning in Mikel Arteta’s plans at the Emirates, meaning a move away from London would be best for all involved.

With all that in mind, it isn’t surprising to see Bild report on Friday that Schalke want to ‘fight’ to keep the player at their club, although they’ll need a lot of help to do so.

The Germain outlet, via their website, state that Arsenal ‘must really want to get rid of him and agree on a severance payment with the left-back’, who currently earns around €9m/year in wages.

Schalke, down their end, ‘can only offer around €1.5m’, and that’s only after they get rid of other players on their wage budget.

That’s why Bild explain it’s more ‘realistic’ for them to keep hold of the likes of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and veteran goalkeeper Michael Langer for next season than Kolasinac.

Then again, Arsenal have agreed to settlements in the past with other players, and if the left-back is keen to stay at Schalke, perhaps some sort of compromise can be found?
