Borussia Monchengladbach are hoping that Leeds United ‘will give in a little’ in negotiations for Max Wöber, as they hope to reduce his fee and get him permanently.
That’s according to Gladbach Live, who say the German side are well aware they need to pay €10m plus for the Leeds loanee.
They explain that while everyone in charge at the club is convinced about signing Wöber on a permanent basis having liked what they’ve seen so far this season, the reality of doing so isn’t quite as simple.
Several reports have made it clear he could cost as much as €17m, a big sum for the Germans given things have been financially tense in the last few years.
They’re instead hoping that Leeds will ‘give in a little’ when it comes to negotiations over the defender and reduce that fee to one they find more palatable.
They certainly want to have him but had originally signed him as a replacement for Nico Elvedi. He didn’t end up departing last summer and now there is increased competition for places in the squad.
Thus, their money could be better spent elsewhere, especially on such an ‘XXL investment’ and they need to think about their plans.
They’re continuing to work on the deal, though, and the suggestion is that they will eventually cave in and pay for the Leeds man at some point.
What they really want, though, is some encouragement from those in charge at Elland Road, perhaps in the shape of a reduction in that asking price, to tempt them into really getting the ball rolling.
Should Borussia Monchengladbach not come up with a figure to convince Leeds United, there it seems that another club will pay a reasonable fee for Wöber after his good season.
