Atlético de Madrid are ‘optimistic’ they can work out a deal with Chelsea this weekend for Conor Gallagher and Joao Félix.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who report that the Spanish club believe the Portuguese forward’s departure will unlock the deal to bring Gallager in from Chelsea.

Chelsea are negotiating a deal for Félix at this moment in time, while Atlético remain keen on Gallagher despite the deal appearing to collapse last week. One deal cannot happen without the other.

Those in charge at the Wanda Metropolitano are optimistic the two could be resolved this weekend, even after the saga that ended up surrounding Gallagher last week.

The Spanish side remain convinced he is the man for them to reinforce their midfield and they are not contemplating signing any other players but the Chelsea man.

They would like him to be present at the club next Wednesday, when the squad are presented to the fans.

While they are optimistic the deal could be done this weekend, they know there is a need to be realistic as Chelsea have numerous plates spinning at this moment in time.

The big hurdle is the final amount of each deal, particularly when it comes to Félix. Atlético want €60m for him while Chelsea value the Portuguese forward at €45m plus various variables.

The Spanish side seem confident a deal for both players can be worked out, though, perhaps even at some point this weekend.
