Earlier on Tuesday, we covered an article in the Spanish media making it clear that Barcelona had put Frenkie de Jong on the transfer market this summer in hope they could make money from a sale.
It’s no secret that Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the midfielder, which is why Manchester United, his next club, have immediately been linked with the former Ajax star, who is finding life a bit more difficult in Catalonia.
There’s no guarantee of a sale, nor that the Red Devils will actively bid for the player, but their chances of succeeding are certainly boosted with the Dutchman at the helm going forward.
Manchester United aren’t the only club interested, with Juventus also reportedly keeping an eye on the situation, which Calciomercato.it talk about on Tuesday.
The Italian website state, from their own information, the La Liga side will only accept ‘fresh money to replenish the coffers should they decide to sell the Dutchman’, before adding there is ‘strong interest from Erik ten Hag’ for his ‘protégé’.
Cuatro then come in and give their view on the situation, explaining that Barcelona certainly believe ‘that at least €70m can be obtained by him leaving’.
They feel ‘great offers’ could be received from interested clubs, and they are ‘willing to listen to all of them’, as they are ‘disenchanted with the player’s performance’, while he is ‘also disenchanted with Barça and has made it known on the pitch with his anger at Xavi’.
A deal is therefore there to be done for Manchester United, and we now have to wait and see what Ten Hag wants to do once he officially takes over at Old Trafford.
