Inter Milan and Bayern Munich are both chasing Chelsea’s Mateo Kovačić, according to InterLive.it.
The midfielder’s contract lasts until 2024 and he ‘should say goodbye’ to the Blues after this season.
Kovačić was at the Serie A side between 2013 and 2015, and their sporting director, Piero Ausilio, ‘dreams’ of bringing him back to the club.
Inter have approached the 28-year-old over a potential deal. They would need at least €40m to sign the Croatia international and that figure is deemed too high for them. This could allow the Bundesliga side to take an advantage in the race to sign him.
The report adds Bayern, ‘without necessarily having to resort to cash’, could ‘undertake an incredible exchange negotiation’ for the midfielder by including Leroy Sané as part of the deal.
It’s stated the forward’s wife is ‘fed up’ with life in Germany and has recently returned to the UK. The former Manchester City man could follow his wife back to England. Chelsea may provide an escape route for the 27-year-old and his family.
