Despite playing very regularly under Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton & Hove Albion this season, Joël Veltman’s contract with the Seagulls expires in the summer.
There is still time for him to renew, but it means the 31-year-old is currently free to talk to foreign clubs about signing on a free, which is something AS Roma are looking to take advantage of.
That’s at least what Leggo are reporting on Monday, as relayed by Giallorossi.net, with it claimed the Brighton player is just one of many potential free agents being targeted by the Serie A side.
However, Tiago Pinto, their technical director, ‘doesn’t want to stop there’, also looking at a possible deal for Roberto Firmino, while he is also ‘trying’ to sign Brighton’s Veltman.
Signed from Ajax for a mere €1m, the right-back has been a great asset to the Seagulls over the past three years, making 101 appearances in all competitions for the club, helping out down the right as well as in the centre-back role.
He has scored three goals and assisted another three during his time with the Premier League side, which could now come to an end in the next few months.
