Back in the last summer, we saw Newcastle United being named in the race for Palmeiras youngster Giovani.
It was reported by ESPN Brasil that among the many clubs following the teenager, the Magpies were one of those ‘monitoring’ his evolution there.
Even though not a lot happened in the past few months, it seems Newcastle now face some heavy competition for his signing, as Barcelona are keen on landing the 19-year-old as well.
This information is brought by Spanish outlet El Chiringuito, who claims the Camp Nou side are now ‘interested’ in buying him and are already making the first moves for the signing.
According to the report, Barça director Mateu Alemany is set to hold a meeting with Giovani’s agent, and Palmeiras are set to request between €25m and €30m for his transfer.
So if Newcastle are still keen on Giovani, they better start moving, or Barcelona may win this race.
The youngster is just getting started for Palmeiras’ first team, and has two goals and three assists in 25 appearances so far, with his potential being followed by European sides for a long time.
