Playing 157 minutes in his first two games of the season for West Ham United, Nayef Aguerd was sent off in the 3-1 win over Chelsea.

He also scored prior to that, and he will have been relieved that his expulsion won’t have affected the final result as Lucas Paqueta piled on the misery deep in injury time.

However, there is now talk that he could have potentially played his last game for West Ham, at least if his former club, Stade Rennais, get their own way, according to Foot Mercato.

Looking for a new centre-back after receiving a loan with an obligation to buy offer for Arthur Theate from RB Leipzig, the Ligue 1 side are ‘thinking about a return’ of the Morocco international.

While they have yet to respond to said offer from the Germans, they are evaluating their options, and considering a move for the West Ham star as a potential replacement.

This is nothing new, as it’s written that when the Hammers were moving for Harry Maguire, Rennes came forward and ‘positioned themselves’ to get Aguerd on a loan to ‘strengthen their defence’.

As for the 27-year-old, he would be ‘open to a return’ to Ligue 1, where he made a real name for himself prior to his move to West Ham.

It’s also added that the centre-back’s name popped up in talks between the two clubs regarding Jérémy Doku.

While ‘nothing is decided for the formula of the deal’, Foot Mercato make it clear the ‘possibility exists’.

One to seriously keep an eye on as the end of the transfer window edges closer.
