Boulaye Dia wasn’t pleased with Salernitana’s decision to reject Wolves’ late move in the last window and this led to the striker rebelling and being dropped from the squad.
The drama continued after he refused to return to the club as expected from international duty. This led to a feeling at the Serie A side that blocking a move to Wolves could have been a mistake.
Dia hasn’t featured since August 29th and Corriere dello Sport now state he could return to the squad when the Italian club face Empoli on Wednesday.
Behind the scenes, Salernitana are in talks with his agent over the possibility of including a putting a fresh release clause into his deal.
Salernitana rejected Wolves’ offer of free loan with an obligation to buy set at €18m. Corriere point this out and then state Dia’s new clause would not be less than €20m, either for the winter market or next summer.
Last week, Sky Italia suggested Gary O’Neil’s side could be presented with another chance to sign the frontman in January.
However, the €20m+ looks ambitious from Salernitana, considering the first month of this season has been a disaster for both Dia and his club.
Things would have to improve drastically for that to be attractive to Wolves, so there’s a chance the player’s agents will argue for a lower amount.
Either way, a set price could make it easier for Wolves.
