Bayer Leverkusen are ‘still pushing’ to sign Granit Xhaka from Arsenal this summer and their prospects of getting him are ‘very good’.
That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenburg, who says Xabi Alonso is eyeing the Switzerland star as a ‘top leader’ for his side this summer.
Reports throughout last week indicated that Leverkusen were pushing to try and sign Xhaka this summer and that he could be tempted to make the move, with him ready to take on a new challenge away from London.
Plettenburg confirms that latter point, stating that Xhaka ‘wants to take on another challenge’ after seven years with the Gunners.
At the moment he is ‘totally focused’ on Arsenal and seeing out the end of the season but once the summer comes around, he is keen to move on and Leverkusen want to sign him.
He is currently valued at around €15m and there have been no negotiations between Arsenal and Leverkusen as yet but the suggestion is that they could be opened and concluded quickly, particularly with Xhaka open to a move.
Leverkusen are certainly keen on taking him back to Germany, with Alonso seemingly considering him a key addition for his future plans.
News #Xhaka: Leverkusen is still pushing to sign him! It’s looking very good. Alonso wants him as a top leader. Understand that Xhaka wants to take on another challenge this summer. But he’s totally focused on @Arsenal now.
