Yerson Mosquera spent last season on loan at Villarreal, with the Spanish club happy with his performances and tempted to try and keep him around longer.
Though securing a permanent deal from Wolves may have come with prohibitive costs, it was still something under consideration and a loan was also mentioned.
Mosquera himself spoke repeatedly about being happy at Villarreal as the season was coming to an end, and dropped plenty of hints about wanting to be there for the next campaign.
Any initial talks between Wolves and Villarreal mustn’t have gone very well, with the latter making a move to get Willy Kambwala from Manchester United.
He’s arriving for a very reasonable €5m, plus a potential further €5m in bonuses, and the Red Devils will have a buyback clause.
The media close to Villarreal had assumed that would be the end of the Mosquera track… but maybe not.
Tuesday’s edition of El Periódico Mediterráneo reports Villarreal ‘still pines’ for the Wolves player. They still rate him and could make another move to get him before the end of the current market.
They want another central defender, despite getting Kambwala, and if Wolves soften their stance then 23-year-old Mosquera could be that man.
