Valencia are ‘still negotiating’ with Arsenal over a deal for Lucas Torreira, having already struck an agreement with the player.

That’s according to AS, who say ‘the operation is not simple’ because of the Uruguayan’s contract situation.

The newspaper explains that Torreira is Gennaro Gattuso’s ‘wish’ to reinforce the midfield this summer as he is a player with ‘hierarchy and experience’.

The problem, though, is that he only has a year left on his contract with Arsenal and the Gunners wants to ‘cash in’ on him. That doesn’t work for Valencia as their finances are tight.

They already have an agreement in place with Torreira but are waiting for Arsenal ‘to make a move’ that will open up the negotiations.

One possible solution is that Torreira signs an extension with Arsenal, which would then open up the possibility of a loan with an option to buy. That’s not possible right now as Torreira would be a free agent at the end of the loan next summer.

As stated, they want to make money from Torreira, so need to figure out something before they can sanction a departure to Valencia this summer.
