Sources at Juventus ‘strongly deny’ that they are going to make a big move for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the January transfer window.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say the Italian side are backing away from the idea of signing the Dane as a replacement for Paul Pogba.
Pogba is facing an extensive ban from football after a failed drugs test, leaving Juventus with a problem to solve in the middle of the park.
TMW explain that the plan is to find a ‘buffer solution’ until the end of the season with a player who is yet to be identified.
The ideal man would have a profile like Hojbjerg, hence the continued rumours about a move for the Tottenham man in January, but ‘sources within the club strongly deny’ the possibility of signing him.
They, perhaps, may be simply playing their cards close to their chest, waiting to see what happens with Pogba before moving forwards.
Should he be banned his contract will be terminated and that will free up funds for a transfer that would have otherwise not been available.
That could then open the door to a move for Hojbjerg, but the public message at the moment is the Tottenham man is not a target.
