River Plate are set to benefit financially this summer if Arsenal push ahead with a move for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodríguez.
That’s what El Intransigente report today, explaining that River’s 5% training rights could see them pocket a small but significant sum if the player moves to the Emirates.
Rodríguez has emerged as a potential target for Arsenal over the last week, with reports in Spain stating that they had been following him for months and planned to move in the summer.
This was backed up yesterday by Estadio Deportivo, who added that the club were intending to stick to the midfielder’s €80m release clause if asked for a price.
That is a figure Arsenal are unlikely to pay, but the likelihood is that he will move for a significant fee, and that will end up benefitting River Plate.
They hold the training rights to Rodríguez, who came up through their youth ranks in their Under 20 squad before a loan spell at Defensa y Justicia and then a move to Club Tijuana in 2016.
Thus, River are owed 5% of any future transfer as part of FIFA’s solidarity scheme, so an €80m move would see them receive ‘a real fortune’.
That’s unlikely to happen, but if a deal does happen, it will be for a ‘significant amount’ and could pocket his side ‘a good sum’ in a time when the club’s finances are stretched.
