Rayo Vallecano will fight to keep hold of manager Andoni Iraola out of Leeds United’s clutches if they come looking for his signature once again.
That’s according to AS, who say the Spanish side will immediately address Iraola’s future after they take on Real Valladolid on Thursday.
The newspaper explains that Iraola is ‘one of the coaches in fashion’ thanks to his work with Rayo this season, with them challenging for Europe in La Liga.
That’s earned him a lot of attention and he’s already found himself ‘on the agenda’ of several sides in La Liga and the Premier League.
Indeed, Leeds ‘already tried’ to take him away when they were looking for Jesse Marsch’s replacement two months ago, but Iraola decided to stay at Vallecas and they went with Javi Gracia instead.
That hasn’t worked out and he could be sacked this week, which would mean a likely summer search for a new manager.
Rayo aren’t interested in letting him go, though, and plan to offer their coach a new contract to ensure he is still with them next season.
They have already admitted publicly, via executive David Cobeño, that signing Iraola to a new deal is their main objective as the team are one built in his image and he is key to things moving forwards, particularly as a deep remodelling of the squad is expected this summer.
Thus, if Leeds return for Iraola they will find a club not willing to let him go, and perhaps the same outcome as earlier this year.
