FC Augsburg are ‘seriously considering’ signing Brentford’s Frank Onyeka on deadline day, according to Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Nigeria international’s deal with the Bees lasts until 2027, with an option for another year.

Despite this, the journalist claims Brentford have ‘opened the door’ for the 26-year-old’s exit.

Plettenberg’s colleague at Sky, Patrick Berger, has provided an additional update on the German club’s efforts to sign the Brentford man.

The Bundesliga side are keen on taking the midfielder away from Thomas Frank’s side in the next few hours.

According to Berger, talks have progressed, likely between Augsburg and Brentford. At this moment in time, there’s no agreement for Onyeka to join the Bundesliga side.

Neither Plettenberg or Berger have mentioned whether Augsburg are looking to buy the player or sign him on a loan deal. With discussions progressing, there should be more updates on this soon.

Onyeka joined Brentford from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2021 and has been mainly used as a substitute in the Premier League. To put it in context, he made 31 league starts since joining the English club.
