HSV Hamburg have asked Lille to send them the contract they have with Everton over Amadou Onana, so they can find out what percentage of his move to Aston Villa they will receive.
That’s according to Hamburger Abendblatt, who report that the German club are keen to find out what they will be owed as part of various agreements involving the midfielder.
The newspaper explains that the German side are set to ‘earn millions’ from Onana’s recent move to Aston Villa, who he has joined in a £50m move from Everton this week.
It’s the Belgian’s latest move in what have been a busy few years for him that have seen him go from Hamburg to Lille, to Everton and now Aston Villa.
That initial move saw HSV secure a 20% resale clause for every further transfer, meaning they are entitled to a fifth of the amount Lille will receive from Everton.
It had been reported previously that this was 20% of the transfer fee in total and not the profit but that has now been disputed, with BILD reporting that Lille are only getting a share in Everton’s transfer profits. Hamburg would then get €1m rather than €2.36m.
Nobody is entirely sure what the reality is, though, and Abendblatt report that both scenarios are still possible.
According to their information, HSV have yet to receive any information on the contract between Lille and Everton. They believe that it is likely that they will receive a percentage of the transfer profit, as that is more common in football, but they don’t know it for certain.
In order to clarify the matter, the German side have contacted their French counterparts and asked for a copy of the contract with Everton.
Lille are obliged to inform Hamburg about the issue and so the confusion on the matter should be ‘clarified promptly’, with everyone seemingly keen to get their cut as soon as possible.
