It’s now been nearly two months since Bayern Munich bought Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, but that transfer is still a big topic in the German media.

The word had always been that the Bundesliga side spent €100m to sign the striker, but according to their president Herbert Hainer, that’s not true yet.

In an interview with FAZ, relayed by TZ, the Bayern chief claims a big part of the fee depends on transfer bonuses, and for that reason, Tottenham won’t see that much money so soon.

“Harry Kane didn’t cost more than €100m – unless we win this, this and this in the next few seasons. Without bonuses we are under €100m,” said Hainer.

“There are only a few strikers in this category who, on the one hand, fit us and, on the other, make us better. And because there are only a few, they come at a price. With Harry Kane we finally have a goal guarantee again – he stands where a striker has to stand and he also scores a lot of goals.”

It was also claimed that the bonuses can reach €20m.

Now despite the doubts about how much Bayern already spent on the signing, it’s still a consensus in the German media that the transfer broke the record in German football, as that previously belonged to Lucas Hernandez’s €80m move to the Munich side.

Following the summer move, Harry Kane has had a very good start at Bayern Munich, with nine goals and four assists in eight appearances. The former Tottenham player is now a contender to be the Bundesliga’s top scorer this season, as he already has eight goals in just six league games.
