Brazilian club Fluminense are rubbing their hands together after Brighton and Hove Albion agreed a deal to sign João Pedro from Watford this summer.
That’s according to Globo Esporte, who say they are entitled to 10% of the ‘added value’ from the deal after his move to Vicarage Road in 2018.
The youngster joined Watford for €11.5m five years ago and Fluminense included a clause in that deal that entitles them to 10% of any profit the Hornets make on him down the line.
With a €34m deal now agreed with Brighton ahead of the summer that means they are set to pocket at least €2.5m from the deal should it go through as expected. Tricolor Carioca will also receive a small percentage of the deal thanks to FIFA’s solidarity scheme for training clubs.
The transfer will be the most expensive in Brighton’s history and see Pedro step up from Watford after 109 appearances for the club and 24 goals and nine assists.
He originally signed for them in 2018 but only arrived in England in 2020 as that was when he turned 18-years-old.
He’s been a regular for them since then and has 11 goals and four assists in 35 games this season, a number which has seemingly convinced Brighton to move for him, something Fluminense are very happy with.
