On Monday, Akşam reported Celtic have invited Uğurcan Çakır’s agent to Glasgow to talk about a potential deal in the summer. It was also stated Brendan Rodgers has requested a video conference call with the Trabzonspor goalkeeper.
Akşam’s claims are backed up by Türkiye Gazetesi, who then share an additional update on the efforts made by Celtic to sign the 28-year-old.
Celtic could be in line to face competition from the Middle East in their efforts to try and sign the stopper in the next window.
That’s at least what Fanatik are reporting, and they add that two Saudi Arabian clubs are looking at the Turkey international.
Çakır recently changed agents and is now represented by DW Sports Management. Their client list includes Merih Demiral, who moved from Atalanta to Al-Ahli last summer.
The stopper’s current deal lasts until 2027 and Fanatik state that if the Saudi clubs are keen on signing him, Trabzonspor are ready to open the door for Çakır’s sale, for at least €10m.
Turkey’s sport media can be rather excitable, so it’s worth keeping that in mind here.
