Unwanted at Everton last season, André Gomes found a nice landing spot in the north of France where Lille were happy to use him.
The midfielder teamed up with José Fonte and Paulo Fonseca for the campaign, and ended up impressing enough that the Ligue 1 side want to keep him, as explained by Foot Mercato.
There have been a few articles on this in the past, but most have said it would be a difficult task, such are the financial parameters needed to strike a deal with Everton and the player.
However, that isn’t going to stop Lille from trying, as Sébastien Nonda reveals that even the Ligue 1 side weren’t expecting the deal to go as well as it has.
That’s why they are ‘trying to do something’ to keep him around, and there is a ‘real desire’ for him to be part of the team for the 2023-24 campaign.
He does admit that any deal would be ‘complicated’, but the ‘priority’ is currently to keep him around.
That’s great news for Everton, who could end up cashing in on the Portuguese midfielder, who always struggled to match the pace of the Premier League and was often plagued with injuries during his time on Merseyside.
