Now that Bayern Munich have officialised the transfer of Kim Min-jae from Napoli, the Serie A side really need to find a replacement.
Their number one target has always been Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Max Kilman, which was made clear when they made an initial offer of €35m. That was swiftly rejected by Wolves, who wanted €40m at the very least for the centre-back, which the Serie A side feel is excessive.
Talks have continued since then, and Corriere del Mezzogiorno point out the Italians aren’t ready to give up just yet.
They reiterate that the Wolves man is their priority to take over from Kim Min-jae, and the club will try a ‘little longer’ to ‘lower the demands’ from the Premier League side.
With that in mind, it’s also pointed out that Napoli have an alternative ready in case they don’t manage to sway Wolves, with VfB Stuttgart’s Konstantinos Mavropanos the option available for around €20m.
Still, there are some that believe Kilman would be worth the money, as former Everton scout Carlo Jacomuzzi told Kiss Kiss Napoli, relayed by Calcio Napoli 24, of the heights he feels the Wolves man can reach.
He said: “Kilman could be similar to Chiellini in terms of the type of player. Perhaps he lacks something in late recovery, but he can improve. He has a strong head, a personality, physical exuberance. The only drawback is that he has little European experience. But, placed in a group that works well, these gaps are easily filled. He is a top-level player.”
