Pape Matar Sarr made his Tottenham Hotspur debut when he came off the bench against Aston Villa earlier this month. Since then, he has made three more appearances, which includes two starts.
The midfielder was initially expected to go out on loan in the winter market. Salernitana showed firm interest, but were unable to find an agreement with Spurs.
He was ‘offered’ to Espanyol a few weeks ago, but they had then discarded the 20-year-old because of his ‘youth’.
That’s according to La Grada, who state the La Liga side did not consider the Tottenham player because their manager, Diego Martínez, had asked for an experienced midfielder.
There has been a change in their stance as Espanyol have ‘reactivated’ their interest in the Senegal international. He has featured for his country at the World Cup and was a regular for Metz last season, where he was on loan from Tottenham.
Sevilla had also knocked on Pape Matar Sarr’s door in January, but he did not entertain them because there was no assurance of featuring regularly. That is something he would be able to enjoy at the Catalan club.
If he were to join Espanyol on a loan deal this month, the report says it would be a ‘good option’ for the player.
