For the past few days, several Portuguese outlets have been saying Benfica are interested in Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi. Some reports even claimed that the player gave a positive answer to a move to Lisbon.

There’s only one newspaper who dismissed the claims this week, which was Correio da Manhã. Back on Monday, they had a very short story saying the Eagles’s interest in the 22-year-old had ‘gone cold’ because of his recent injury.

Well, a couple of days has passed, with other outlets continuing to claim that the talks for the transfer are on. And Correio da Manhã are back today, once again to say the move just isn’t happening.

This time they bring a headline saying ‘Guendouzi ruled out’, claiming that his metatarsal fracture should indeed be a problem for the signing.

Correio da Manhã says the Arsenal player was ‘referenced’ by Benfica, but the injury forbids the deal for now. Since the Eagles want to have their squad built before the Champions League playoff, they won’t be able to have him available by then.

This is the only outlet that has this signing ruled out, with others in Portugal still believing the move could happen regardless of the player’s fitness.
