After João Carlos Teixeira was officially announced by FC Porto, the former Liverpool midfielder has given an interview to Porto’s official channel (via A Bola) to talk about the move and his future in his home country.
“I’m very happy. It’s a dream for me to play for this big club. I had the ambition to wear this shirt, because I was used to seeing Porto winning trough the years. I want to give my best and I hope everything goes well”.”
Porto president Pinto da Costa has also commented on the signing, giving a few details on how it was made: “He was a free player and it was his option to come here, which gives us a big satisfaction and the assurance that we’ll have a player in the squad with soul and heart.
“He was one of the first names to be mentioned in the meeting to prepare for the new season. Since then I became aware of the situation. I heard he hadn’t renewed with Liverpool and he was wanted by some clubs.
“So through his agent Jorge Mendes I asked to make a contact, which had an immediate response from João Carlos, so we sealed his arrival at Porto.”
Teixeira signed a four-year contract at FC Porto. The footballer spent four years at Liverpool, but only made eight senior appearances for the English club.
Still a very highly rated talent, Liverpool may have lied to keep Teixeira and then loan him out again, but a permanent deal with FC Porto was understandably hard to resist.
