There’s still no guarantee that Nottingham Forest will be able to sign Alejandro Grimaldo from Benfica for free at the end of the season.
Even though the player’s contract with the Eagles expires this summer, the Portuguese media now claims the Lisbon side are ‘preparing’ a final effort to get his deal renewed.
That’s today said by newspaper O Jogo, because following reports saying the likes of Nottingham Forest and Fulham are after the player, they claim Benfica manager Roger Schmidt asked the club to make a new attempt for the extension.
President Rui Costa is the one in charge of the task, and is willing to ‘do everything’ to convince Grimaldo, including offering a high salary and a big signing prize.
So it now seems Nottingham Forest, Fulham and other interested clubs need to wait and see if the player will actually be free at the end of the season.
Newspaper Record writes that there are no closed doors for now, so it’s very likely Grimaldo will soon analyse everything there is on the table and decide whether it’s time to leave Lisbon after seven years at the club.
