Following all the links from the last summer saying Newcastle United were keen on signing Gonçalo Inácio from Sporting, this transfer is set to become more likely a year later.
That’s something today written by newspaper O Jogo, who says the Lions are ‘prepared to lose’ the player at the end of the season.
Sporting had been demanding €45m to sell the player last year, which is the amount set for his release clause, and expected to continue being his price tag.
Newcastle United are mentioned as one of the clubs who have Inácio ‘referenced’, as well as Manchester United, Paris Saint Germain and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It’s recalled that despite these clubs’ old interest, none of them had shown they would be prepared to pay the ‘exaggerated’ €45m fee for the signing last year, so we’ll have to see if something changes until the summer.
Sporting are hopeful Inácio’s performances late in the season take him to the national team, in hope that this would raise his market value.
Back in July, it had even been said that Newcastle offered €33m for the player, but that was turned down by the Lions as it didn’t come close to his release clause.
