Manchester United are yet to make an offer for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting but the player and Bayern Munich are ‘ready to talk’ about a transfer.
That’s according to journalist Christian Falk, who says there’s been no moves as yet despite reports elsewhere.
Manchester United seem likely to move to bolster their forward options this month with Rasmus Hojlund working to adapt to life in the Premier League and Marcus Rashford not hitting the numbers he managed last season.
Signing an experienced striker to partner Hojlund rather than a more expensive younger option has been mooted, perhaps repeating the operation that saw Wout Weghorst arrive on loan in January last year.
That’s led to reports linking them with a move for Bayern’s Choupo-Moting, who has filled the role of back-up striker at Bayern well in the last few years and could repeat the trick at Manchester United.
It seems the idea is not one being officially pushed for by the Red Devils at this point, though, with Falk reporting that ‘there is still no offer’ from Manchester United for the striker.
He does say that Bayern and the player ‘would be ready to talk’ about a potential deal, presumably because his contract expires in the summer and no new deal has been agreed or signed at this point.
A move to Saudi Arabia is a ‘serious option’ for him in the summer, but that’s a while away yet and it seems everyone is now waiting to see what Manchester United decide to do.
There is still no offer from @ManUtd for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting @FCBayern. Club and Player would be ready to Talk. The contract of the striker is running out at the end of the Season. A move for Choupo-Moting to Saudi Arabia in Summer is also a serious option
