The Portuguese media now seems to be insisting that Arsenal lead the race to sign Viktor Gyokeres.
Earlier on Tuesday, it was newspaper Correio da Manhã who wrote that the Gunners ‘lead the way’ and want to trigger the striker’s €100m release clause.
It seems Arsenal would need to be prepared for that, because according to A Bola, Sporting won’t be offering any discounts.
The newspaper today writes that the Lions are looking to make a ‘record sale’ with him this summer, and will indeed demand the €100m to let him go.
It’s said that Sporting are even considering giving Gyokeres a new contract to keep him and push that clause up. His agents are set to go to Lisbon in April, and that’s when further talks will take place, possibly raising the amount to €120m.
A Bola claims that Arsenal are ‘on top’ of the interested clubs, as despite the big price, many sides are expected to try his signing. While their plan their bids, it seems the meetings with representatives will be decisive for the summer transfer.
Sporting plan to do that themselves, with an ambitious attempt at a new contract.
