This morning, there was an interesting update from Portuguese newspaper Record claiming that Brighton & Hove Albion are pressing for the signing of Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.
After having a first offer rejected, the Seagulls would now be preparing to return with a second offer, this time over €30m, and try to convince the Eagles of making the sale.
Well, it turns out that Portuguese newspapers often disagree with each other, and the updates from A Bola are not as exciting.
The outlet confirms that Brighton are interested in the striker, with the club being ‘available to make an offer’. However, there’s not a lot of confidence from Benfica that this move is happening.
A Bola says ‘there’s no expectation of a sale’ at the Lisbon side, mostly because they believe Nunez is worth over €30m.
The proof that each newspaper has their own version of this story is that, when we gather the two of them, it sounds like Benfica value Nunez at over €30m and Brighton are ready to offer that much. That’s not how things work in the transfer market, since there’s a big chance that only one of the outlets is carrying the truth.
Now with Record saying the Seagulls should soon make another effort and A Bola not expecting the move, it shouldn’t take long until we get more updates from the local media and see who’s right this time.
