Even though the most exciting transfer news in Portugal normally comes from the newspapers, sometimes there are surprising claims on TV shows that would certainly be worth a front page.

Today we get to hear from Fernando Mendes, a former Sporting player and now pundit at CMTV, claiming there are two players from the Lions who are on their way to Manchester City.

The pair are Pedro Gonçalves and Nuno Mendes, who according to him will head to the Premier League side in the January transfer window.

With not many details, Mendes claims ‘he’s been told’ that both moves will soon be happening: “In January, they’ll be Man City players.”

Nuno Mendes has indeed been heavily linked to Manchester City this year. Even though the club officially denied their interest by sending a message to the Portuguese media, there were outlets insisting that the chase is real.

In Pedro Gonçalves’ case, we haven’t seen anything recently about the Citizens looking for his signing in the Portuguese media, as only the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United were said to be interested. However, with 23 goals scored last season, it’d be no surprise if the midfielder attracted interest from Pep Guardiola.

Now since Mendes’ release clause is €70m and Gonçalves’ €60m, it’s hard to imagine Manchester City signing both players at once, especially in the January window.

So let’s wait and see how this story goes on.
