Newcastle United continue to struggle in their quest for the signing of Matheus França from Flamengo.

Today, newspaper O Globo writes that despite the Magpies’ €16m for the player, he’s going nowhere.

According to the outlet, Flamengo ‘did not accept’ Newcastle’s bid, and are still to receive a new one from the Premier League side.

More details on this case are also brought by journalist Venê Casagrande, who, at the weekend, had a video about the situation.

He claims that Newcastle first tried to sign França with a €13m offer. Back then, Flamengo claimed they’d only make a deal with there were €20m on the table and they kept 50% of a future sale.

The Magpies insisted with this €16m bid, which was made of €14m up front plus €2m in bonuses, at which point the Rio de Janeiro side obviously turned that down.

Casagrande even managed to speak to Flamengo director Marcos Braz about that attempt.

The club chief did not want to confirm Newcastle’s bid, but still made it clear that it shall not be easy to take França from the clu: “We did not put Matheus França up for sale. He is not for sale. Flamengo are not interested in negotiating Matheus França at this moment.”
