Atlético Madrid still have no plans to bring defender Renan Lodi back from Nottingham Forest in the summer, despite a season ending injury to Reinildo.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Spanish side will look to sell Lodi even if Nottingham Forest do not exercise their option to buy him this summer.
The Brazilian has been on loan with Forest since last summer, when he left the Wanda Metropolitano in search of regular playing time ahead of the World Cup.
He didn’t end up going to Qatar but has been a regular for Nottingham Forest this season, establishing himself as the first choice left-back under Steve Cooper.
They have an option to turn his loan into a permanent move in the summer but a recent report made it clear there’s been no decision on that front as yet.
They say that despite an injury to Reinildo which will see him miss next season, Lodi is not in Atlético’s plans and ‘they will try to transfer’ him if Nottingham Forest decide not to keep him.
The idea he could be sold elsewhere in the Premier League isn’t mentioned here, meaning the Spanish side are seemingly just keeping their options open.
Either way, the ball is in Nottingham Forest’s court when it comes to Lodi.
They have an option to sign him permanently but given Atlético’s desire to sell, it may be worth trying to negotiate that down if they do want to keep the defender.
That remains to be seen, with the only certainty at this moment in time being that Atlético don’t want him back and would prefer to move him on permanently at the end of the season.
