For someone who was prepared to do anything to get his move away from Leicester, not a lot has happened regarding the future of Nampalys Mendy.
The defensive midfielder told L’Equipe back in June that all he wanted to do this summer was somehow end up at Bordeaux in Ligue 1, but the feeling wasn’t entirely mutual.
However, according to the daily sports newspaper, that deal appears to have collapsed after the Russian side rejected Bordeaux’s loan offer for the Spaniard, with both sides too far apart on certain aspects to come to an agreement.
While not the best news for Bordeaux, L’Equipe believe this could be beneficial for Leicester City’s Nampalys Mendy, as the Ligue 1 side will now be forced to look at targets further down their list to bolster their midfield.
Despite being the most available, the former Nice and Monaco starlet doesn’t seem to be the highest priority for them, as after getting turned away for Javi Garcia, the French club also enquired about Schalke 04’s Benjamin Stambouli, also to no avail.
Poor Nampalys. He just wants to play football.
