Boca Juniors will make a last-ditch attempt to convince Valentín Barco to remain at the club and not join Brighton and Hove Albion, with a new contract offer to make him ‘one of the best paid on the team’.
That’s according to journalist Facundo Pérez, who insists neither Brighton nor any of the player’s other suitors have made a new bid for him as yet.
He explains that Boca Juniors will offer the youngster, who is considered one of the rising stars of Argentinian football, a new deal before the end of the year to try and convince him to stay where he is and ignore the growing interest in him.
Barco has been heavily linked with a move away from Boca Juniors since the summer, when Brighton were initially interested in him and then Manchester City later joined the race for him.
There have been consistent reports about either club signing the full-back over the intervening months, with it claimed regularly that either side were pushing to try and get him.
That’s certainly been the case over the last month, with it flip flopping between Brighton and City making moves.
The last week has seen the former pushing ahead and according to Pérez, this has solicited a response from Boca.
According to him, the plan is for the Argentine club to offer him a new deal before the end of this year that will see him enjoy a significant economic improvement and become ‘one of the best paid on the team’ in the process.
According to him, Brighton are ‘still interested’ in the player but Boca are yet to receive an offer and it seems now Boca want to get ahead and try to get a new deal signed.
Whether Barco will accept isn’t yet clear, but the offer will be there either way, with Boca seemingly determined to keep him from Brighton.
