Scoring 18 goals in 32 appearances this season for FC Twente in the Eredivisie, Manchester City loanee Enes Ünal is proving he has the talent to back up the Premier League club’s £2.55m investment in him when he was just 18.
Speaking to the Dutch press last week, the 19-year-old explained the ‘next step in my career becomes very important’, and whether that means remaining at the Etihad to try and convince Pep Guardiola he’s good enough for the first-team or another loan remains to be seen.
There is, however, one team who would be rather interested in his services, and that is Lazio in Italy.
The Serie A club are looking for a striker to back up Ciro Immobile next season, and the idea of bringing the Manchester City striker on loan is one they’ve had for a long time.
According to Il Messaggero over the weekend, Lazio tried to sign the Turkish forward on loan last season, without much success, and the Italian newspaper believe they could try again in the coming months.
Fresh off an impressive 7-3 win over Sampdoria at the weekend, Simone Inzaghi’s men have developed and grown over the past eight months, making them a more attractive destination than last summer.
We’ll have to wait and see if Ünal considers them worthy of the next step in his career, but if it’s to just play backup to Immobile, he might look elsewhere, needing regular first-team football to continue on this season’s achievements.
