Earlier today we covered claims from France which stated Lyon had made a late attempt to sign Anthony Martial from Manchester United.
The Ligue 1 club were looking for a loan deal, and Martial was one of several players on their list. Lyon made contact with the forward’s entourage, however, they were rejected by Martial who didn’t fancy returning to his former club.
Now it appears Martial wasn’t the only Manchester United player who Lyon were keen on late in the window. According to Foot Mercato, an attempt was made to sign Eric Bailly on loan, and that also failed with the transfer ‘too complex’ to complete in the time that was left.
That saw Lyon turn their attention to Jerome Boateng, who left Bayern Munich when his contract expired at the end of June. Boateng’s agents have spent much of the summer trying to find him the best club they could, but with most efforts resulting in nothing, the track to Lyon opened up.
