Lazio are hopeful they can get Keita Balde Diao to extend his contract with the club in the coming weeks. The youngster was linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion in the summer following a bid from the Premier League side.
Corriere dello Sport have today reported Lazio president Claudio Lotito wants Keita to commit to the club by next month when talks will recommence with the player’s agent. It’s been revealed the two parties need to go through the finer details of the renewal which is likely to include a hefty buyout clause in order to deter other clubs trying to sign the attacker.
However, given Keita’s run-ins with Lazio at the start of the season it’s not a certainty the player will extend his contract with the Serie A side. The 21 year old was keen to leave the Italian side in the summer, and was being tracked by West Brom
During the last window West Brom tabled an offer of €18m to sign Keita just before the transfer deadline. The Premier League side were looking to take advantage of the player’s situation at Lazio, and they hoped to land him with a last minute deal.
However, Lazio were looking for offers in the region of €30m, and subsequently West Brom didn’t come back with an improved offer.
