Hannover 96 are looking to tie down Phil Neumann to a new contract, prompted by Birmingham City’s attempts to sign him.
Florian Plettenberg has reported the German side are looking to extend the defender’s contract, with his current deal set to expire next summer. Hannover want the player to commit himself to them until June 2027, but there are no reports on the financial package they are offering him.
The German journalist goes on to say Hannover are responding to Birmingham City’s recent offer for the right back. Plettenberg reports the Championship side recently tabled a €4m bid, plus add-ons, for Neumann.
We recently covered reports that Birmingham City had actually reached a verbal agreement to sign the 27-year-old, but it wasn’t revealed if this was with the player or his club.
Given Hannover rejected the €4m offer it’s likely personal terms were agreed with the German. Should he remain tempted by that then the Blues could ruin Hannover’s plans should they try again.
Indeed, Plettenberg says there’s no agreement on a renewal. If one is snubbed then surely a sale becomes much likelier.
He’s made 61 league appearances for Hannover since arriving in 2022.
