Last month, there were reports in England claiming Manchester City are close to sealing a deal for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, something Sport Witness were told that was not the case.
Manchester United were dragged into the transfer mix and there were claims in Spain suggesting the Red Devils want the 24-year-old, something which was also played down by a source close to the situation.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was at the Camp Nou to watch Barcelona in action against Atletico Madrid and the Norwegian was there to observe Ernesto Valverde’s men for his side’s upcoming Champions League tie.
On April 5th, Mundo Deportivo reported Solskjaer would also observe Saul during his trip to Catalonia, which was an inevitable follow-on transfer rumour.
The 20-time English champions once again get a mention in the Spanish newspaper’s report, along with Pep Guardiola’s side and Barcelona.
It’s stated that Manchester United are ‘planning’ on signing Saul and Diego Simeone’s side ‘know this’.
The player’s contract with Los Rojiblancos runs down in 2026 and with United chasing him, the La Liga outfit have offered him a new deal without changing the €150m release clause.
AS claims Atletico are now expecting a response from Saul, who recently changed his agent and is now represented by Stellar Group, the agency which manages the likes of Gareth Bale, Luke Shaw, Maxi Gomez and others.
For as long as football rumours have existed, players who are negotiating new contracts with their clubs have been linked with United in order to get a better deal.
It’ll be interesting to see how Saul’s case ends.
