Benfica are hoping that Chelsea push forward with a permanent move for Joao Felix, as they would be set to benefit from it.
That’s according to Correio da Manhã, who cover the potential transfer today and how any Blues fee would be beneficial for the Portuguese side.
Felix is currently on loan at Chelsea from Atletico Madrid, arriving at Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window after an apparent falling out with Atleti boss Diego Simeone.
The deal only runs until the summer and does not include a purchase clause, with it made clear that the striker’s future is very much dependent on what Simeone does in the summer.
If he remains at the Wanda Metropolitano then Felix will not want to return but if the Argentine boss departs, he would be open to a return.
Several reports have made it clear that Chelsea are ready to pay out to sign Felix on a permanent basis, though, with Todd Boehly happy to keep spending and the coaching team impressed by what they’ve seen from the Portuguese side so far.
Those reports have made it clear any deal would be worth around the €80m mark and Correio state that if that were the case, Benfica would receive €1.6m ‘relating to the solidarity mechanism’.
That’s FIFA’s system put in place to reward clubs who have trained players at any point in their careers, with the scheme designed to ensure smaller sides do not miss out on a piece of big transfers for their former players down the line.
That would certainly be the case for Felix, who spent four years moving from Benfica’s U17’s to the senior side before his move to Atletico Madrid in 2019.
And it seems they’re now keeping an eye on his next potential destination as they are set to benefit, particularly if Chelsea pay €80m to make his loan a permanent move.
