PSV Eindhoven are ‘very keen’ to try and get midfielder Joey Veerman signed up to a new deal at the club, and keep him out of Newcastle United’s clutches.
That’s according to PSV Fans, wo say the club are working to try and ensure they’re not forced into a sale this summer.
Reports in England have this week linked Newcastle with a move for Veerman as they plan a big summer after a disappointing season hit by injuries this year.
They could be forced into additions in the middle of the park in particular, with Bruno Guimaraes linked with a move away amid speculation the club need to sell a big name star to help with PSR and FFP rules.
Guimaraes is the obvious candidate alongside Alexander Isak, although the Magpies have regularly insisted that neither will be sold and both players are insistent they are happy at St James’ Park.
Veerman could be a potential replacement for Guimaraes if he does depart but PSV Fans insist his current club, PSV Eindhoven, are ‘very keen’ to stop that happening.
They cover the report from England and add their slant, saying that they are trying to make the midfielder extend his current deal at the Phillips Stadium as it expires in 2026. This would further protect them against any offers this year.
They want to have him at the club for another year at least and an extension would protect them on that front, rather than him staying and then being in the final year of his deal.
Veerman, though, seemingly has other ideas and ‘would not be unwilling to move abroad’ should the opportunity be presented to him.
Whether he’d be keen on Newcastle remains to be seen, but that should give them at least some encouragement if they do decide to move.
