Borussia Mönchengladbach have six central defenders in their squad, including Maximilian Wöber, who is currently on loan from Leeds United.
Rheinische Post state 18-year-old Fabio Chiarodia is the only one who, as it stands, will still be at the club next season and a solution has to be found for a few. Wöber is included in this list.
Last week, the same outlet repored Gladbach director of sport Roland Virkus wants to reduce the fee needed to buy the 25-year-old from Leeds.
It was also explained that Gladbach will have clarity on the Austria international’s future only after finding out where the Championship side will finish this season.
That hasn’t stopped the Bundesliga side from working out on a solution to retain the defender, by trying to find funds, as per today’s edition of the newspaper. They have a purchase option to buy Jordan Siebatcheu, but not for the Leeds owned player.
Mönchengladbach will face lower division side Saarbrücken in the DFB-Pokal quarter final next month, and they’ll be able to earn more money if they progress to the last four of the competition.
Rheinische Post state every additional euro would improve the German club’s position when negotiating a deal with Leeds for Wöber.
With better finances, they could potentially carry out a deal for the Whites man even before they raise funds through Kouadio Koné’s sale.
The newspaper makes no mention of whether Daniel Farke’s side would be willing to sell him, especially if they return to the Premier League.
