Dutch side Vitesse have been informed that chairman Dane Murphy is set to join Charlton Athletic this summer.
That’s according to Algemeen Dagblad, who report that Murphy has left the club with immediate effect and will be joining Charlton as their general manager.
The newspaper explains that Muphy, a shareholder at the Dutch club and chairman of the board of directors of the Arnhem club since March, is set to join the Championship side.
They were informed of the decision on Tuesday afternoon and discussions are now taking place about the American’s shareholding in Vitesse. The KNVB have been informed of the situation also.
Murphy was one of five new owners of Vitesse after taking charge of the club in January. The move to Charlton, though, means it will be impossible for him to hold a management position at the club. This is prohibited by KNVB regulations. He also has to give up his shares.
The departure to Charlton comes at an unfortunate time for Vitesse and also poses a problem for the club, according to AD.
They’re currently doing everything in their power to retain their professional license as the KNVB believe that rules and previous agreements on proper management of the club are being ‘structurally circumvented or broken’. Now Murphy’s departure is another problem to solve.
His move to Charlton marks a return to England for him after he previously held a director’s role at Nottingham rest and Barnsley.
