There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Besiktas have stepped up their pursuit to sign Rangers defender James Tavernier after being linked with the fullback earlier this summer.

Despite speculation over his future at Ibrox, the 32-year-old has continued to be selected by Rangers boss Philippe Clement and has started all of his side’s league games this season.

However, Takvim today report Besiktas are looking to make a last-minute attempt to sign the right back before the Turkish Super Lig window closes on Friday.

It’s claimed the Istanbul club have been in contact with Tavernier’s agent with regards to his client’s demands, but as yet there are no reports if there has been an approach with Rangers.

The Turkish media outlet go on to say Besiktas manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is keen to be reunited with Tavernier following their time together at Rangers. The Dutchman has reportedly instructed Besiktas executives to get a deal done for the player.

Tavernier made 58 appearances for the Scottish club last season, scoring 24 goals. He’s contracted to Rangers until June 2026.
