West Ham United are in the battle to sign Burnley’s CJ Egan-Riley this summer, according to Foot Mercato.

The centre-back was vital in helping Burnley secure promotion to the Premier League as he played 41 Championship games this season. His contract with the Clarets will expire on June 30th and his future beyond this month remains uncertain.

Last week, we covered claims from France that RC Strasbourg have held talks to sign the Burnley player on a free. Foot Mercato now report Marseille and West Ham are also in the mix.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side are keen on the 22-year-old and signing him on a free transfer can be a good deal for them. It won’t be easy because of West Ham, while Burnley still hope to extend his contract.

The outlet explains the Hammers are ‘fully committed’ to securing the defender’s services. Therefore, Marseille have to overcome competition from the Premier League club and RC Strasbourg if they want to sign CJ Egan-Riley.

Foot Mercato points out the Burnley man has been asking about Marseille, both as a club and a city. This may indicate he’s open to joining them.

RMC Sport report Marseille have identified CJ Egan-Riley as their priority defensive target but make no mention of West Ham’s interest.

Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that Marseille have offered him a contract until 2029. He adds the French club want to finalise the operation in the next few days.

To do this, they still have to beat West Ham and Strasbourg.
