The Portuguese media today shares some details of Newcastle United’s interest in Benfica director Rui Pedro Braz.

It’s said the Eagles’ chief is in the Magpies’ list of candidates to take the role of sporting director.

Following initial reports from England, newspaper A Bola claims to have confirmed the information.

The outlet writes that Newcastle hired a recruiting company to find a replacement for Dan Ashworth, and Braz, who’s in a ‘shortlist’, travelled to London for an interview. Benfica are said to be aware of all the movement.

The director used to be a pundit in the Portuguese media, commenting transfer business, and in 2021, the Eagles invited him to actually work with the club’s market moves.

A Bola recalls that this isn’t the first time he’s been linked to a Premier League club, as last year, the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham were also rumoured as potential destinations for him.

The outlet doesn’t seem to actually know what Braz’ chances of taking the job are, as they take claims from The Times to say that Paul Mitchell, Tim Steidten and Tiago Pinto are other candidates.
