Napoli have enquired to Everton about defender Vitaliy Mykolenko as they look for a new left-back this summer.
That’s according to Area Napoli, who report that the Italian side have ‘gathered information’ on the Ukrainian full-back.
They explain that Napoli have held contacts over Mykolenko with Everton, who have already been in contact with the Italian side about a potential deal for Jesper Lindstrom. The suggestion is that talks between the two clubs have gone either way after being opened for the winger.
The defender is an ‘old acquaintance’ of Napoli’s chief scout Maurizio Micheli, who had recommended him to former director of football Cristiano Giuntoli.
Manager Antonio Conte also knows the player well having wanted to sign him when he was in charge at Inter Milan.
Everton, for their part, are ‘not very inclined’ to sell Mykolenko and are aiming to keep hold of him this summer if they can. Napoli, though, do have him on a list and have ‘updated themselves’ on the player’s situation at Goodison Park.
Perhaps they will step up their interest in him later in the window and try something more concrete later in the window. That would certainly make sense as current reports have them working on numerous sales to lighten the squad and release funds.
There’s no indication of a swap deal involving Lindstrom, although we fully expect someone, somewhere to suggest that before long.
