Atlético de Madrid are following West Ham United forward Gianluca Scamacca ‘closely’ as a potential replacement for João Félix.

That’s according to journalist Antonio Ruiz, who says the Italian is on the list of options to replace the Portuguese star.

Félix has been heavily linked with a move away from the Wanda Metropolitano over the last few months after an apparent falling out with manager Diego Simeone before the World Cup.

The player and the club have now reached an agreement that he can leave if they receive an acceptable offer, which is yet to happen but could during the January transfer window.

Should he depart, then Atlético would need to find a replacement, particularly after already allowing Matheus Cunha to join Wolves.

Appearing on Tiempo de Juego, Ruiz revealed that West Ham striker Scamacca is on the list of potential options the Spanish club may explore and they are ‘keeping a close eye’ on him this season.

Atlético had already ‘sounded out’ the player in the summer, but then club Sassuolo decided to sell him to the Premier League and West Ham.

The forward has endured something of a difficult spell in London since arriving, finding himself in and out of David Moyes’ side and managing just two Premier League goals in 13 games to date.

It means there are doubts about the 23-year-old and it seems Atlético may look to take advantage of that if they need to find a replacement for Félix.
