Real Betis considered a move for Leicester City striker Patson Daka in the January transfer window and could revive that in the summer.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who cover the Spanish side’s interest in the Leicester man as a replacement for Borja Iglesias.

They explain that Betis looked at various players after Iglesias joined Bayer Leverkusen on loan, eventually signing Chimy Avila, who had been their number one target.

That deal proved to be a difficult one to get done and so Betis covered their bases and handled other alternatives, with Leicester City’s Patson Daka the one that ‘stood out’.

They have ‘excellent reports’ on the striker’s performance in the Championship and like him, so tested the possibility of signing him in the January transfer window before Avila, who was Manuel Pellegrini’s preferred signing, was secured.

However, he remains on the agenda at the club for the summer transfer window, when the Spanish side may need to add to their forward line again, particularly if Leverkusen activate an €8m clause in the deal for Iglesias.

They’ve already tested the waters and know Leicester’s demands as a result, as well as the fact that Daka would be open to the move should it be offered to him.

Things can change between now and the summer, of course, but it seems Betis will be keeping a close eye on Leicester and Daka’s performances.
